Liam Stewart (band leader)

  • Liam, from Galston in Ayrshire, has won every major Scottish accordion championship on the circuit, in an impressive competitive career that has spanned 25 years.
  • Three-times winner of the All Scotland Senior Accordion Champion, winning the coveted Jimmy Shand Shield (2003, 2013, 2020
  • 5-times NAAFC Senior Accordion Champion (a record yet to be matched!).
  • He is a 3-times winner of the invitational Accordion Masters (Champion of Champions) competition, held in Oban.
  • Liam continues to be a popular and sought-after band member; playing accordion, piano and drums (not simultaneously!).
  • He has recorded with numerous artists and bands over many years, including numerous live and studio radio broadcasts, and a vast number of album recordings to his credit.  Liam and his bandmates perform regularly on BBC Radio Scotland's popular programme "Take the Floor", hosted by Gary Innes.
  • Liam studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama, in Glasgow (now the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland), graduating in 2006 with a BEd (Music) Degree (1st Class Honours).
  • Liam still enjoys a busy schedule of performances, as a soloist and band-member, working with some of the top performers in a variety of contexts, whether theatre, recording or for dancing.
  • Liam is a hugely versatile musician, who is very much known for his technical abilities, as well as his enthusiastic and entertaining performances throughout Scotland and beyond!  
  • He has had the privilege of performing at some of the most prestigious events and functions throughout the UK and beyond, including regular performances at Dumfries House, with HRH The Prince of Wales in attendance, and a very special performance at Buckingham Palace in 2017.
  • Liam's trio recently featured as the 'ceilidh band' on Channel 4's four-part series "Deadwater Fell", starring David Tennant.

Leonard Brown (harmony accordion)

Leonard, from South Shields, is a popular entertainer and band-leader in his own right, having travelled extensively throughout the UK and beyond, with his All Star Band.  Leonard has honed his considerable skills as multi-instrumentalist and host.  In the Liam Stewart Band, Leonard brings a wealth of experience and musical expertise.  His harmonies and counter-melodies have become synonymous with The Liam Stewart Band sound.   Leonard is a former All Scotland Accordion champion - 2012.

Craig Paton (piano / keyboards)

Craig, from Milnathort, is a talented, young, multi-instrumentalist, who has led his own band and is a respected member of many other bands.  His own band has featured on many successful projects, ranging from radio broadcasts, both live and studio, to album recordings and festival appearances. Craig, also a former All Scotland Accordion champion (2010 + 2015), plays piano/keys in The Liam Stewart Band.  He brings a very competent and often modern approach, reinforced by a wealth of expertise as a performer and band member, whether playing accordion or piano.

Gordon Smith (drums / percussion)

Gordon, from Gullane, is one of the most sought-after and highly regarded drummers of his generation, and is a major contributor to dozens of Scottish Dance Bands performing regularly around Scotland and beyond.  His involvement in literally hundreds of albums, broadcasts and musical projects has culminated in his wealth of knowledge and impeccable technical skills.  Like his band mates, Gordon brings so much in terms of interpretation and arrangement to The Liam Stewart Band, whether playing traditional snare and hi-hat or a more elaborate drum kit.
